What looked on paper to be a hard game for YM proved the case when
they travelled to Knightswood to take on an Erskine Bridge team who
had won their last four games on the trot.
It
was a makeshift YM team as their goalkeeper and centre half were
playing for the first team in Stirling but they produced the better
chances in the early stages with Foley and Taylor causing problems
for the home defence. Against the run of play Erskine opened
the scoring in the 18th minute when their forward pounced as the
ball broke in the box to place his shot into the bottom right hand
corner of the net giving makeshift keeper Billy Hamilton no chance.
Within 5 minutes the game was level when Taylor pounced on a ball
played along the edge of the box by an Erskine defender. He
beat one player before lashing his shot low into the left hand
corner of the goals. The match was played at a hectic pace and
chances were being made at both ends of the pitch but the home side
took the lead again after some poor defending.
After half time YM were awarded a penalty as Foley was tripped as he
was about to shoot for goal. The Erskine defender was sent off
for dissent as he disputed the spot kick which Dawson coolly
dispatched.
YM then switched off and it was 10 man Erskine who forced the game
and after a poor clearance they scored to make it 3-2. YM
threw on their subs and pressed the game to get the equaliser which
cam with 2 minutes remaining. Billy Robertson collected the
ball on the left and beat the defender before squaring to Graeme
Robertson snr who slipped the ball past the lunging defender before
placing his shot low into the net.
YM were camped in the Erskine penalty box for the remainder of the
game but could not get the elusive winner.
