Scottish Amateur Match Report
Centre 2
v 3 EKYM, Saturday 14th November 2009
With the weather cancelling Y.M's Scottish Amateur team's league
match a hastily arranged friendly was organised against local rivals
Centre. This was the second game between both sides this season
with Y.M winning the previous match 2-1 and a stern test was
expected as Centre play 3 divisions above them in the Scottish
Amateur Football League.
Due
to work commitments and injuries Y.M fielded a bench of 3
substitutes who were all over the age of 40 but despite this it was
YM who struck first. A mix up between veteran defender McDade at
the heart of Centre's defence and goalkeeper Dykes saw McDade's
header back to Dykes nestle in the net. Dykes positioning in goal
was suspect as he came for the cross which was being comfortably
dealt with by McDade and left the goal gaping.
Within 10 minutes the lead was doubled as the predator Butchart
struck with a sweet right foot which rocketed past Dykes in the
Centre goal.
Centre sporadically broke upfield and on one these rare sorties were
rewarded with a goal which made the match more of a contest.
After half time the game was a bit more evenly balanced as Y.M gave
their trio of over 40s a run out. It came as no surprise when
Centre pulled level with 10 minutes to go and it was only some good
goalkeeping by Y.M's Graeme Robertson jnr which kept the game level.
In
the dying minutes Y.M scored the winning goal, which over the 90
minutes, they probably deserved. Woods, who had been a thorn in the
side of Centre all day, beat the offside trap to head the ball over
the flapping Dykes before heading the ball into an empty net.
