Scottish Amateur Match Report
East
Kilbride Y.M 2-2 Shawlands F.Ps, Saturday 3rd October 2009
East Kilbride Y.M's Scottish
Amateur side entertained Shawlands at Brancumhall on Saturday in a
League match.
Y.M had a shot from Foley
early in the match which struck the upright and rebounded to
Butchart who, from 8 yards, side footed the ball towards goal with
the keeper stranded on the ground. The Shawlands defender on the
line raised his arm and knocked the ball with his elbow to safety.
The referee baffled both the home and away side with his first of
many 'strange' decisions when he said the ball had played the
defender and waved play on!
The first half was a
particularly scrappy affair with Y.M shading possession but
struggling to break down Shawlands who had only one striker and were
trying to play on the break.
It took some good play to get
the breakthrough for Y.M and it came after 28 minutes with some good
work between Billy Robertson and Willie Dawson which released Dave
McCaig into the box. McCaig beat one defender and then placed
his left foot shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
After half time the referee
again had a major influence on the match with an incredulous
decision which enraged the home side and pleasantly surprised the
Shawlands team. A long ball over the top was chased down by the
Shawlands forward and Graeme Robertson jnr in Y.M's goal clearly won
the 50/50 tackle sending the ball back up field. As play raged on
by both teams the referee several seconds later blew his whistle to
stop play. Confusion reigned on the park until he pointed to the
penalty spot and booked the Y.M keeper!
Shawlands scored from the
resultant penalty spot but more drama was to follow minutes later.
A scramble inside the Y.M penalty box saw the striker win the
ball but as he went to shoot Y.M's keeper clearly tripped him and
another penalty was awarded whilst the goalkeeper received his
second yellow and was sent off.
Shawlands striker stepped up
but blazed the ball high over the goals and almost clearing the
houses in Long Calderwood.
The game started to turn as
the referee stopped play at every occasion and was upsetting both
sets of players. This frustration led to dissent, and a lack of
discipline, by Billy Robertson which saw Y.M down to 9 players when
he received his second yellow card of the day.
Shawlands then pushed two up
front to try and get all three points and were rewarded when a
looped clearance caught in the wind and deceived the makeshift Y.M
keeper McDermott to land in the net.
Despite being two men down Y.M
pushed forward and came close on several occasions before they got
the equaliser they deserved. A ball from David Sanderson played
into the box was won by Graeme Robertson snr and played onto Willie
Dawson who scored his eighth goal of the season.
Y.M nearly clinched all three
points with the last kick of the ball when a cross by McCaig was
volleyed by Dawson and crept past the left hand upright.
The game finished 2-2 and Y.M
will need to improve on their discipline for the rest of the season
if they want to achieve anything this season.
The Scottish Amateur team
travel to Hamilton Palace on Saturday to play Hamilton F.P's on
league duty.
