YM entertained Lochgilphead Red Star on Saturday at
Kirktonholme in the Coronation Cup. Red Star are playing in the Division
above YM and a tough test was expected.
Straight from the kick off Y.M put the visitors on their back foot as the came
close on several occasions with the best chance being a shot from Foley which
forced a good save from the keeper. After 20 minutes YM were rewarded for
their pressure when a lay off from Taylor to the edge of the box was blasted
against the bar and Butchart pounced to score the rebound.
Within 5 minutes Y.M's lead was doubled when they
were awarded a free kick positioned on the shy line. Foley took everyone
by surprise when instead of crossing as was expected he shot for the near post.
The keeper pulled off a fantastic save to push the ball onto the near post.
Unfortunately for Lochgilphead the predator Butchart was on hand to force the
ball over the line.
The third goal of the game came after Martin Ross
launched an exocet throw in which cleared everyone in the penalty box before
Butchart rose like a salmon at the back post to clinch his hattrick. The
final goal of the half and game was a well worked move between Taylor and
Dawson. Taylor dispossessed the defender and beat two more players on the
right flank before passing inside to Dawson who passed the ball into the bottom
corner of the net.
After half time Y.M threw on all three subs and
failed to increase their lead further despite coming close on several occasions.
