Scottish Amateur Match Report
East Kilbride YM 3 v Erskine
Bridge 0, Saturday 29th August 2009
With East Kilbride Y.M's Caledonian League
side's game being abandoned due to the weather a healthy support
turned up at Kirktonholme on Saturday (29/08/2009) to watch the
Scottish Amateur team take on Erskine Bridge.
YM were riding high after 5 straight
wins in a row but did not punish the visitors with efforts from
Foley and McGuire being well saved by the keeper. Whilst YM's man
of the match Gary Semple put in an excellent performance the same
could not be said of the rest of the team who seemed to struggle to
get the ball down and play football.
After half time YM did take the
lead after a 'soft' penalty was awarded against Erskine when the
referee adjudged McAneny had been bundled over in the penalty box.
YM's captain Willie Dawson stepped up to slot the ball home for a
lead that was probably deserved on possession alone.
For the remainder of the game YM huffed
and puffed but failed to make any impact until 5 minutes to go when
Taylor won the ball on the bye line and cut back to fire a low shot
beyond the keeper to make the score 2-0. Two minutes later YM
scored the final goal of the game when Billy Robertson was put
through on the keeper and slid his shot into the bottom left hand
corner of the net.
