Scottish Amateur Match Report

Kings Park Rangers 1 EKYM 4

Sat 8th August 2009, Stepford Road parks, Glasgow

EKYM's Scottish Amateur team played their fourth pre season friendly away to Kings Park Rangers.  The match was eagerly anticipated as KPR are in the league above Y.M and it was hoped this would provide a good indication of how the team's preparations for the new season were advancing.

Straight from the off Y.M took a stranglehold of the game winning the majority of possession in midfield but failed to turn this into goals with efforts from McAneny, Taylor and McCaig testing the home keeper.  The spectators had to wait until the 40th minute for the first goal after some good work between Billy Robertson and McCaig set up Ian Taylor to slot the ball home after his first shot hit the upright.

After half time Y.M continued as they finished the first half but began to turn their possession into goals.  John McNamara broke from defence and played a through ball to Taylor who beat the last defender before slipping the ball under the keeper for his second goal.  5 minutes after the restart one of Kings Park Rangers rare attacks earned them an extremely dubious penalty when a shot from close range cannoned off Stewart Brown's thigh however the referee saw a handball.  The KPR forward scored convincingly from the spot and the sense of injustice seemed only to spur Y.M on.

McNamara again had a bursting run out of defence and shot from 30 yards striking the bar with a spectacular effort.  Ian Butchard was on the rebound in a flash and stroked the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net with a sweet left foot shot.

With 5 minutes to go Taylor grabbed his hattrick with a 20 yards effort which curled into the net giving the keeper no chance.
