Caledonian Team's Match Report

Balmore 0 v EKYM 3

Saturday 31st October 2009, League

This was the only Caledonian Premier League fixture to beat the weather on Saturday and although the playing surface at Stonehouse was heavy it  was playable.
Balmore keeper Fisher, was in fine form making several excellent saves as YM dominated the early proceedings and luck was on his side when Stephen Woods broke clear only to see his effort beat the keeper but come crashing back off the crossbar.
YM needed to score while they had so  much possession but it took till the half hour mark to do so. Greg Hannah won a tackle outside the penalty area, sent the ball wide to Martyn McLaughlin whose cross was headed into the net at the far post by Stuart Bovill.
Balmore tried to respond but YM repelled their attacks and held on to their first half lead.
The pattern of play was similar in the second half with YM having more of the play than their opponents.
Luck deserted Balmore keeper Fisher in the second half as a poor kick out from him landed at the feet of Y.M's David Thomson who wasted no time in shooting low into the corner of the net doubling Y.M's advantage.  Thommo then showed his versatility going back to centre half along with Greg who swept behind him as YM veteran Wadey had torn his nylons and had to come off. Near the end of the match a left wing run from Martyn McLaughlin brought about the third goal when his searing low shot was parried by the keeper and although he pushed the ball away from goal it hit off a defender rushing back towards goal and ended up in the net. Pelo had the cheek to claim the goal and a sympathetic official gave it to him!!!
This Saturday YM play Doune Castle in a league match at the John Wright kick off 2.00pm
