Caledonian Team's Match Report

Strathclyde University 6 v EKYM 2

Wed 26th August 2009, Caledonian Premier League Fixture

YM played very well for the first half against Strathclyde University creating a number of chances but failing to  convert them. "Uni" keeper Hamilton, made a super save from a David Wade 45yard free kick turning it round the post for a corner and followed this up with another couple of smart.

It really was good to watch a YM side that looked very comfortable take the game to the "Uni" side and outplay them for long periods.

Any "Uni" attacks were handled well by Wade and keeper Winter and the rest of the defence but the annoying thing was we had not scored during this 45 minutes of sustained pressure.

The second half was agony for YM as first of all we lost possession in midfield and when they broke forward the mishit shot deceived everyone to end in the net. The next blow was Wade coming off injured and this was quickly followed by Stephen Thomson being sent off, adjudged to have prevented a goal scoring opportunity and to add to YMs woes the "Uni" were awarded a penalty from which they scored.

The ten men were up against a team that started to exploit their shortcomings and although Stephen Woods scored two late goals the home side ended up scoring almost at will, finding the net six times and keeper Winter prevented an even heavier defeat.

Football can be a cruel game and no one watching the first half could have seen this outcome. YM must start putting points on the board sooner rather than later
