A depleted EKYM
team travelled to league champions Bannockburn on Saturday
and dominated the opening 20 minutes but were to rue missing two gilt
edge chances through Simon Hill and Martin Ross.
YM were dealt a
massive blow when captain and sweeper David Wade had to be
taken off with a hamstring pull. Within 2 minutes Bannockburn
took the lead, when a good move down the right led to a
deflected finish from the centre. Five minutes later and it
was 2-0 from a highly controversial incident. Alan
Paterson managed to intercept a move by getting a
outstretched leg to the ball which keeper Keegan picked
up. To everyone's surprise and shock the referee awarded an indirect free
kick from which Bannockburn doubled their advantage.
This was a
hammer blow to YM and in fairness YM's keeper Keegan kept
them in the game until half time with 3 great saves. Within
20 mins of the 2nd half, a rejuvinated YM drew level due to
2 pieces of opportunism from Simon Hill. YM were well on top
and McDonald and Keddie were causing all sorts of problems
with the defence looking solid under McCulloch's influence and
control.
But as so often
happens they shot themselves in the foot, a string of
mistakes led to Bannockburn taking the lead with Keegan and
McCulloch having a calamity! Bannockburn took a lift from
this and then went on to score two late strikes. Overall for
much part of this game YM were more than a match for their
opponents. Hopefully they can cut out the silly mistakes
that cost them dearly in the league opener.
